The New Outrigger is an online platform for emerging perspectives, research, and commentary on Oceania. As a digital storytelling platform that speaks across geographical and institutional boundaries, we are interested in content that elevates and amplifies the rich and vibrant humanity of the region, its people and cultures in all forms. We’re interested publishing stories about arts and heritage, climate change, the environment, language, material culture, Pacific communities (regional and diasporic), history and popular culture.
The New Outrigger was founded by Mitiana Arbon and Bianca Hennessy in 2018, and is supported by the Australian National University’s Pacific Institute.
Since the end of 2020, Talei Luscia Mangioni has been the primary administrator and editor.
I edit this website from Canberra, on the unneeded land of the Ngunnawal and Ngambri peoples. Always was, always will be Aboriginal land. We extend warm respect to traditional owners, elders and all Indigenous people who visit this site, across Oceania and beyond.
